The 80mm to 400mm FX AFS zoom lens manufactured by the Nikon Corporation was an Expensive mistake.

When shooting fast moving subjects suck as birds the lenses is autofocus system is slow and often misses sharp focus. It takes a lot of photos just to get a few that are acceptably sharp. Another thing that I do not like about the newer lenses is the focus ring, it appears to not be as fluid or smooth as the older AIS lenses. When I switch the lens to manual focus because the lens’s autofocus is not acquiring sharp focus and this happens often with this lens, while turning the focus ring it seems to jump in and out of focus as apposed to smoothly reaching sharp focus. Wildlife photography with this lens model can be quite frustrating. I was able to capture some acceptably sharp images. This lens seems to always be searching for sharp focus.
The image is not as sharp as I was hoping for, and the cost of a 300mm prime lens is around $5000.
