Photography Tip Questions For Used Lens Purchase
The following questions are very important to ask when purchasing a used lens.
Has the lens ever been dropped onto the ground?
Are there any scratches on the front element or rear element of the lens?
Is there any fungus on the glass elements of the lens?
Are the aperture blades snappy? Do they open and close freely when you turn the aperture ring?
Are there any rub marks on the lenses coating?
You should not be able to see any oil inside the lens.
Is there any dust inside the lens? A little bit of dust is okay?
You should know that when you purchase a used lens it will more than like be out of focus, and you will have to have the lens calibrated by a specialist. If a lens costs $250 used, it will cost an additional $250 to calibrate the lens. It might be cheaper and a better option to purchase a brand new lens. I have several lenses that I regret purchasing used.
